Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta paper

This is my favorite Hahnemuhle paper.

It has a beautiful textured finish with a subtle gloss coating and a vintage, painterly feel to it.

Please note the print as such has much brighter colours, here, I am capturing purely texture details which don't give justice to the actual print quality.

Handling your print

Your print is always handled with utmost care to avoid any fingerprint marks and creases. I use white cotton gloves which is a standard practice while handling giclee prints.

I would strongly recomend acquiring a pair of these after your order( as cheap as £2-£2.50 on amazon or Ebay) and use them when handling your artwork prior to framing.

Can I have my artwork on canvas instead?

Artist's Website

In addition to this shop website which you are visiting now, I have also an artist's website.

My shop makes your ordering experience a straightforward process and is aimed towards gaining as much technical information about your printed artwork as possible.

My artist's website however, gives you a beautiful high resolution display of the images where you can appreciate the fine detail and nuance of the colours.

It is more personal, the emphasis is more on the viewing experience often aided with accompanying passages from my favorite books, poems or my own writing.

This is also the place to know me better and learn more about my creative process.

Artist's website

Posing for my pictures gives me the felling of fully owning the process. However, this is aimed not at self portraiture but at creating a character which will carry the narrative of my visual story. Victorian-stylised costumes with a modern gothic twist, together with my modelling efforts of channeling this particular air of eeriness, strangeness, help to make the character come across as timeless, nearly ghost-like, further remove it from any notion of participating directly in our reality and by doing so, it feels at the same time more distant and paradoxically, closer, as would a figure from a darkened old painting.

On modelling for my pictures

In a way, I find myself more akin to a painter then purely a photographer. The idea, the composition, framing lighting and camera settings are only the beginning of the process. It is mainly during editing stage that I feel deeply fulfilled as an artist. Current possibilities of editing software blur the line between digital and real life brush strokes. Both are done manually and this, alongside other editing components,  is what makes me feel I am putting a personal signature on, not so much a photograph, but an artwork.

On my workflow

In my work, I thrive on melancholy which somehow, inexplicably, connects us with something deeper inside us. It creates an aesthetic value which transcends its mundane, purely psychological dimension.    In my art, sadness seems to be almost celebrated, as if through a series of rites, nearly religious in their devotion.    It is rarely a raw, direct despair, rather its aftermath, a delicate residue left with the passage of time. As Italo Calvino said, "melancholy is the sadness which has taken on lightness"

On my inspiration

A fine art  image is created by the photographer as an artist and not just by the camera.

The artist uses the camera as one more tool to create a work of art.

The camera is used to make an art piece that reveals the vision of the artist rather than documenting the subject before the lens.

After capturing, my image goes through the long process of creative manipulation.

Some parts of my workflow are purely manual like subtly "painting" the lights and shadows or creating/enhancing the leading lines. I use a brush tool with each stroke directed by my hand as the painter would direct his/her brush.

In this way, my art has a unique signature and a deeply personal feel to it.

What is fine art photography?

Behind the scenes...

The cabinet of curiosities...

I have a large collection of "Victorian Mourning" style costumes and various peculiar props ranging from rococo wigs, intricate headdresses, vintage dolls, lanterns, suitcases to eventually, a lone taxidermy crow.

It is not always easy to wear this delicate finery when the session is somewhere wild ,steep and stony with thorns constantly catching the lace.

What makes it more complicated is that I am working on "both sides of the camera" both as a photographer and a model making constant leaps between the camera, the lights, and the spot I where I am posing.

Fortunately, I have two dedicated assistants ( see bottom right) who take care of all logistics. Or so I wish...
